Q: Julie Girling (ECR, UK) - TRACES and Greek stray dogs (2015-06-02)

How can TRACES (TRAde Control and Expert System) be used to relocate unwanted dogs from one Member States to another Member State where there are homes where they are wanted?

Is the Commission aware that Greek veterinarians are refusing to use this system to facilitate the relocation of stray dogs in Greece?

A: Mr Andriukaitis on behalf of the Commission (2015-08-03)

The issue of Traces and Greek stray dogs has already been addressed by the Commission in its reply to Written Question E-004806/2015.

The Commission is aware of complaints by welfare organisations claiming that the Greek authorities do not issue certificates for intra-Union trade in dogs. However, the information available suggests that the alleged refusal would concern non-compliant holdings or businesses. Nevertheless, the Commission is currently exploring the issue with the Greek authorities.
